Ever wonder if tax free holidays are a good deal ? In Texas we had a back to school tax free weekend. Which means sales tax was suspended for school supplies. Well school supplies means clothes not actual rulers and pencils and paper and such. But clothes that kids would wear. Well not actually, I dont go to school and I qualified for the tax free-ness of buying a pair of slacks no school age kid in his right mind would buy. I guess its a good idea especially if you mention school and a holiday. Here we do alot in the name of schools. Holiday well that always sounds good, especially to anyone going to school.
So the boost to Retail Clothing Stores Faultering Sales by the state of Texas is good. But better to call it what it is not lest we feel guilty about a school system which dumbs down the state wide test to measure how well kids can take a test. Or some school districts which cant afford to keep enough teachers to meet the state pupil teacher ratio. Or a dozen other items that could be correct with a bit more money.
But those tax free slacks do look great, the clerk a high school drop out told me so.
There is my psuedo political rant to attempt to compete with Dougs blog.
